The Bumper Car event utilizes those stages from the main game, but challenges players to compete against one another instead of the clock. Inversely, Bandit rewards players for remaining "it" as long as possible. As its name suggests, Tag requires the player marked as "it" to catch the others before time runs out. Four multiplayer modes are offered, one of which can be utilized by two players sharing a single cartridge, the others - Tag, Bumper Cars, and Bandit - support up to four players, but only if each player owns a copy of the title. The latter is a Mario Kart-esque challenge whereby players must complete a number of laps within a given time limit. Interspersed throughout the title are quasi-3D levels that see Rayman on water-skis or behind the wheel of a bumper car. Throughout the adventure Rayman will collect Lums and rescue teensies, and only by acquiring all 1000 Lums will access to the final stage be granted. Familiar abilities, such as the Power Punch and Helicopter, are now imbued from the outset, and once again Rayman will acquire much-needed enhancements as he progresses through the game. This time, Rayman sets off to aid his friend Globox, who has inadvertently ingested the Lord of the Dark Lums, a source of great evil.
Like Rayman Advance before it, Rayman 3 challenges players to make their way through an assemblage of side-scrolling levels running, jumping, and fighting their way through a number of obstacles.
